Legacy Student Ministry

» Program Overview

Legacy Student Ministry plans to send 6-9 people into student ministry each year. Graduates will have a heart for developing mature disciples and will be equipped for long term ministry. While in the program, interns will be able to plan and execute events, oversee quality and consistency in small groups, assist with multi-site ministry, and oversee Leader development focused mission trips.

The program lasts two years and is seeking individuals who feel led by God to pursue vocational youth ministry. Some, perhaps many, of our interns will not have attended Bible college. Often we find that people pursue "secular" careers, only to be called towards ministry after graduation. Legacy is designed to prepare you to serve Christ without going back to college to earn another degree.

Classroom training
Interns will have classroom training each week on specific topics related to youth ministry. Topics include: communication, problem solving, recruiting volunteers, counseling students, relating to parents, financial integrity, management, planning, health, teaching/learning process. Interns will have also classroom training each week on the Bible or discussion of classic Christian literature.

On the job training
Interns will either be leading or participating in events. Interns will learn a lot as they lead, but they will also learn a lot by observing, gathering ideas, and participating in events.

Execution of events
Interns will have time each week to work on planning and executing events.

Evaluation
Each week, interns will have group evaluation meetings of age-group specific events and activities they have led. Interns will have bi-weekly individual evaluation meetings with the Internship Director and/or one of the Youth Pastors.

Training/Team Building
Interns will attend one conference per year with the Student Ministry staff. Interns will participate in two team building retreats each year August and spring (month TBD).

How to apply:
Program participants will fill out and submit an application in the Fall of each year. They will be interviewed by the Youth Pastors of Bent Tree and the Internship Director. Applicants will be selected based upon qualifications, desire, future plans, and compatibility with the team.

Financial Support
Legacy interns will need to raise financial support. All interns will need to raise $3,000 per year. This is to cover expenses including our team building retreat, conference, books, and participation on a Bent Tree Student Mission trip.

Interns are permitted to raise additional support, up to an additional $12,000 per year, as a living stipend. This money is placed in a common fund and shared by those who need a living stipend. Gifts that are given to Legacy can have a suggestion as to which intern receives support, but the board of directors retains sole discretion regarding the sharing of funds. Of course, we'll do everything we can to ensure that the money you raise goes to support you. But sometimes others have need, and we follow the biblical example of Acts 4 and share with those who have need, so no one is lacking.
